Our Staff

david-middleton.jpgDr David Middleton – Proprietor and CEO. Whilst I have seen Mount Mary develop from the very beginning my own career was in Veterinary Science and Zoology. My father (John Middleton) and I shared a great love of nature and a great disdain for authority and bureaucracy. As a young man I spent many hours at my father’s side trying hard to ignore his intense trainings in all subjects including wine. Predictably, some of this training stuck and I consider myself well prepared to steer Mount Mary through the coming decades. Our well balanced team is characterised by experience, loyalty and enthusiasm and I consider myself very fortunate to be one of them. david@mountmary.net

vicki-middleton.jpgVicki Middleton – Proprietor. Vicki is a multi-certificated nurse working in the area of Maternal and Child Health for Maroondah Shire. Vicki has always been fixated on community care and is the driving force behind Mount Mary’s plans to contribute to the local community in a number of significant ways in the years ahead. A significant part of Vicki’s life is taken up with the nursing care of Marli, David’s mother.

marli-middleton.jpgMarli Middleton – Founder. Marli and John established Mount Mary in 1971. Marli was always a steadying influence on John and has a fine palate herself. Whilst sadly confined to a wheel chair these days, Marli still lives on site and participates in many of the discussions relating to the general management of the business and plans for the future.

rob-hall.jpgRob Hall – Winemaker. After initially studying Civil Engineering at Monash University, my attention quickly turned to a career in wine, which led to studies in Wine Science at Charles Sturt University. I gained experience at other Yarra Valley wineries (Yarra Ridge and Punt Road) before joining Mount Mary for the 2002 vintage.  rob@mountmary.net

nick-coulthard.jpgNick Coulthard – Wine Production & Export Manager. After completing my high school studies I started working full time here at my grandparent’s winery in November of 1992. I consider myself very lucky to have been part of our family business for so many years and am currently enjoying a great working relationship with my uncle David. I oversee our sales and production which incorporates many different responsibilities from Cellarhand during vintage, managing our domestic & export sales, managing our freight and despatch department and also representing our winery at domestic & international trade tastings.  nick@mountmary.net

jamie-mcglade.jpgJamie McGlade – Viticulturist. I joined Mount Mary in 1999 and have been involved with vineyard management in the Yarra Valley since 1987. Prior to that I gained viticultural experience in the Barossa Valley, Mildura, Northeast Victoria and the Riverina. I have academic qualifications in Science (Melbourne University), and Viticulture (Charles Sturt University). jamie@mountmary.net

bob-peterson.jpgBob PetersonAssistant Viticulturist. Having had a long standing interest in the wine industry, I joined it officially in 1998. After gaining some experience in the Yarra Valley at Fosters, Coldstream Hills, Giant Steps and others, I was given the opportunity to work at Mount Mary in 2000. My professional industry qualifications include Rural Business Management (Viticulture, Swinburne University) and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Viticulture, Charles Sturt University). bob@mountmary.net

john-boomsma.jpgJohn Boomsma – Maintenance Supervisor. I have an automotive background, as well as house renovation, retail hardware and plumbing, mowing, cleaning and general maintenance. I oversee the fencing, grounds, pastures, buildings, tractors and other equipment on the property. jb@mountmary.net

sam-middleton.jpgSam Middleton – Cellarhand. I have lived at Mount Mary since early childhood and have participated, in one way or another, in almost every vintage since the early 80’s. After completing a degree in Agricultural Science in 2004, I spent twelve months overseas in North America and Europe and worked the 2006 and 2007 vintages at Coldstream Hills. My immediate aim is to gain as much experience in cool climate winemaking whilst completing Wine Science at Charles Sturt University. I am determined to play my part in assisting our family business to continue indefinitely into the future and intend to return full-time to Mount Mary within a few years, in a permanent capacity.

liz-williams.jpgLiz Williams – Office Manager. My background is in teaching, having taught in country Victoria, before moving to the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. My first employment working at Mount Mary began in 1997. Over the years I developed a lovely working relationship with both Marli and John which I will always treasure. I am the office manager, completing all the necessary tasks involved in the smooth running of an office whilst receiving calls from our valued customers. liz@mountmary.net
